Through detailed guided reading, students gain insight into the structures and styles of literary and non-literary texts such as novels, short stories, poetry, drama, speeches, news articles, interviews, and biographies, as well as a range of other reading materials. The purpose is to expose students to the way writers shape audiences' responses to a range of written forms through varied techniques. Students then apply the skills they have learned to their own work.

In all courses, students receive weekly homework marked in detail and returned promptly to enable them to understand their strengths and areas of improvement.
